Hi there! I’m Bob, the creative force behind The Sawdust Mill, where I specialize in building custom furniture with a deep-rooted passion for woodworking. This all started when I was just a young boy—imagine a five-year-old trying to be useful on a bustling construction site. But that’s where my love for wood began.
Back then, we were building a new house. It wasn’t a typical project; it was a family affair with my dad, older brother, and even my granddad from my mom’s side pitching in. Kind of wild to think that, as a family of six, we lived in a tent on-site until the garage was finished. Those early experiences fueled my fascination with the texture of wood, the smell of fresh-cut lumber, and the satisfaction of turning raw materials into something vibrant and useful.
Fast forward through an adventurous career as an electronics design engineer, I found myself missing that ineffable quality of working with wood. So, around 1995, I decided to get back into what had always been a part of my bone and spirit.
You see, wood is a remarkably versatile material. With the right piece, and a bit of imagination, you can craft nearly anything—from the sturdy to the stunning (or both). That’s what I find most fulfilling about this craft: transforming simple boards into works of art that stand strong and look beautiful.
But it’s more than just cutting and assembling pieces—we’ll talk about that later.
